"Portable"

has different meanings.

"I've not been feeling well lately, Dave."

In 1980 we saw "BASIC", with a DMC Comfile and the original Microsoft DOS, followed shortly by a Comodore 64. *WOW*! 64k of RAM! But it was *my own* first computer.

That's 64 *k*, not MEGs

And then came Macintosh : First an SE, followed by a Quadra, a G-3

then we moved to the G-4 and an ibook

:)

And over time we've added........ well,.........stuff that nobody much cares about:

It's now too old to be the pride of "Geeksville", but it'll be *my* toy for a while yet. :-)

.....now if i could only figure out what the box "Fatal Error - re-formatting hard disk" means.

A couple of "special" places that any Mac user really should have:

One place you'll want to bookmark, is a location known as MacFixIt. Good folks with very current information.

Another "keeper" is F-Secure (formerly kown as Data Fellows), which is the site that keeps track of all the accurate virus information, including screen shots of the actual virus. There are several other pages devoted to virus hoaxes that have been floating arround, [you know, the email "warnings" we all get] including MacVirus, which has links to a few other pages which identify the hoax warnings. These include CIAC (Computer Incident Advisory Capabililty) of the USA Department of Energy. Note that the CIAC has changed it's URL (as government offices are prone to do), so this listing is current as of this posting.

Most have already found Ziff Davis, either from MacWorld or the now defunct MacUser, but it's worth a note. This is their base page.

Got a yen for games, utilities, shareware, freeware, etc.? Check out Jumbo. They boast over 93,000 downloadable programs. Other good sites are Happy Puppy and download.com. Also, there's 2 cows. Ayup, that's TUCOWS, who advertize that they are the worlds best.
